FAQ.
Where are you based?
Heart of Glass Tattoo in Worthing town centre, we are a 15 minute walk from Worthing station or a 6 minute bus ride from the station on the 5, 7 or 10 services. There are multiple car parks in the area, the two in the centre of town have step free access all the way to studio.
How do I book in?
I send a mail out on the run up to opening my books to let people know exactly when I’m planning on opening them and for how long including any designs I have available, so please join my mailing list at the bottom of this page. All bookings will need to be made through my online form which requires information about your idea, size, placement and reference images.
How much do you charge?
I usually charge per piece but it roughly equates to 100 p/h and £550-600 for a day session. I will require a non refundable £100 deposit to secure all bookings. A day session will usually last from 11 - 5 including a lunch break. Overall, the price all depends on what you’re getting tattooed, how complex it is and the placement. Some areas on the body take more time and care even on small pieces. There are so many variables when it comes to the time it takes so this is a rough guide.
Is everything single use in your studio?
We are a fully single use studio at Heart of Glass using disposable needles and tubes/grips. Despite using disposables we make the effort to be environmentally friendly: the majority of equipment coverings I use eco plastic alternatives including paper ink caps.
Do you have a waiting list?
I do not keep a waiting list, any availability while my books are closed will be posted on my Instagram on a first come first served basis.
How long between sending a booking form and receiving a reply will I have to wait?
I only have a limited number of slots available when I open my books, I appreciate every request I get but I’m not always able to accommodate or reply to every project. Usually you’ll receive a response within 1-2 weeks if your booking request is successful per round of bookings. You are always welcome to resend your booking form the next time my books open.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Try to moisturise the area you’re getting tattooed daily starting a few weeks before your appointment and exfoliate once a week to remove dead skin (soap and glory body scrub from boots is a personal favourite). Avoid alcohol and get a good nights sleep the night before your appointment and have a substantial meal the morning of. If you’re comfortable doing so you can carefully shave the area you’re getting tattooed the night before your appointment but I always expect to do this at the beginning of an appointment so it’s not necessary. Wear clothing that makes your desired tattoo placement accessible. I will never ask you to remove any more clothing than necessary to complete your tattoo. You’re welcome to bring music to listen to or something to watch or read during your appointment; don’t feel pressured to talk but you’re always welcome to, depending on your needs. Bring sugary snacks if you wish but we have fizzy drinks and sweets on hand if you have a wobble during your appointment.
Do you send out designs before the appointment?
I don’t send out designs prior to your appointment, due to my work load I design the tattoo a few days before or the evening before the appointment. There will be ample time at the beginning of your appointment if you require any changes to be made, it’s much easier to make changes to the design while you’re present to make sure nothing gets lost in translation.
How accessible is your studio?
When choosing the premises for Heart of Glass Tattoo, accessibility was a deciding factor. Our space has two floors to accommodate all clients including clients with disabilities. Our downstairs area has physio beds and an accessible toilet. There are also no steps from the two central Worthing car parks to the studio. We will do our absolute best to tailor any requirements to your specific needs and make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during your appointment. If you have any worries regarding accessibility prior to your appointment, shoot us an email and we’ll be happy to put your mind at ease!
I’m nervous about getting tattooed can you tell me a little more about your process?
Heart of Glass is a safe space and I strive to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible during your time with me. We’ll start the session by confirming your design and making sure you’re happy to proceed. I’ll apply a stencil and we’ll start tattooing, if you need to take a break at all during your session don’t be afraid to ask. Don’t be a hero, tattoos hurt so if you need a minute or would like to just pop your headphones on or read a book you’re absolutely welcome to! Same goes if you want to tell me your life story. You’ll never need to undress more than is absolutely necessary and if you’re feeling a little self conscious I am more than happy to put modesty screens up.
Do you do cover ups or cover scars?
As I specialise in fine line work and stipple shading my style doesn’t always accommodate every cover up project, however it completely depends on what you’re wanting to cover. Bare in mind it’s always better to go bigger and be flexible about what we’re going to cover an unwanted tattoo with. If I don’t think I can cover your tattoo I will be honest with you and point you in the direction of someone who might. As for scar covering, it’s usually completely possible providing the scarring is several years old. Even if your scarring is heavy I will be able to tattoo over it, some scar cover up work may need a touch up due to the way the ink heals over scar tissue but this is included in the final cost.
What are your aftercare instructions?
I go through the aftercare process at the end of your appointment. Remember that it is your responsibility to look after your new tattoo. Different artists have different aftercare instructions, always listen to the artist you’ve just been tattooed by and look after that particular tattoo accordingly. It would be a good idea to invest in some cling film, micropore tape, Sanex 0% prior to your appointment. If you’re familiar with it you can also use dermalise/second skin and bring it to your appointment. We sell aftercare balm in the studio but will also run through several other options available. We offer a touch up included in the price of your tattoo however if you follow the aftercare and look after your tattoo, this usually isn’t necessary.
What if I need to cancel/reschedule my appointment?
You can reschedule your appointment without having to pay a new deposit if you cancel within 72 hours of your booked date, outside of this window, I will have to take a new deposit. Deposits are non-refundable as this covers my drawing time and set up. If you need to reschedule your appointment it is your responsibility to get in contact asap for a new date, usually I will send you a collection of dates available to choose from.
How do you choose the booking requests you take on?
I don’t choose the projects I take on on a first come first served basis. I tend to take on work I can do justice, I find challenging or I think I would be a good fit for and i would like to do more of. I am not always able to take on every booking request I get as I book for limited periods to keep a work/life balance which also means I don’t respond to every booking request and instead post a mass mail out via my mailing list and on instagram once my books have been filled. You can join my mailing list at the bottom of this page.
